The Meaning Behind Our Name
"Lakou Soleya" comes from Haitian Creole. Lakou means "courtyard" — but in Haitian culture, it's the heart of the family compound: the gathering space where generations live close together, share meals, and pass down stories and traditions. Soleya comes from solèy, meaning "sun."
Together, Lakou Soleya means Sunny Courtyard — a warm, welcoming gathering place filled with light. It's the feeling we want every piece to carry into your home: the warmth of Haitian community, and the vibrant, sun-drenched artistry of Croix-des-Bouquets, where our artisans hand-cut and shape each piece from recycled metal drums.
Every purchase supports these artisans and keeps their craft alive.
